10 Major Stars Who Weren’t At WWE SummerSlam 2019 (Even Though They Should Have Been)
4. Drew McIntyre
Of all the superstars on this list, few deserve better than Drew McIntyre. A physical specimen, the 'Scottish Psychopath' made his presence felt on the main roster last year following an impressive run on NXT and, although it looked like he was set to continue doing so on Raw, an unwanted alliance with Shane McMahon quickly turned him into nothing more than the Boss' mindless lackey.
That said, it did at least guarantee him integral pay-per-view matches against the likes of Roman Reigns and The Undertaker and, after his run-in with the latter in a tag team match went down incredibly well at Extreme Rules last month, there was even talk of the two having a one-on-one battle at SummerSlam. Unfortunately, that never came to fruition and instead, McIntyre found himself without a place on the show.
Are WWE trying to tell us that, as the beloved heel is no longer working directly with Shane on a weekly basis, he's no longer worthy of a pay-per-view slot? Regardless of the answer to that, it certainly looks that way - especially when you consider that Shane himself had a major match against Kevin Owens.
What was the point in McIntyre's frustrations with Cedric Alexander if not to lead to a match at SummerSlam? After all, there's no point in asserting your dominance over anybody if you're not going to be able to do so when everyone is watching.
If WWE couldn't pencil in the match against 'Taker at the event, a match against Alexander would have sufficed - anything to give him the pay-per-view exposure he deserves.
