10 Matches We NEED To See At WWE SummerSlam 2021
2. Universal Title: Roman Reigns (c) Vs. John Cena
Another cheap choice due to it almost definitely being the final plan, John Cena returning to challenge Roman Reigns is main event material, like that needed to be typed.
Cena stated recently that he's definitely coming back to the 'E at some point, whereas Reigns commented previously on the possibility of a No Mercy 2017 rematch to the ACC Network:-
"If John wants to get smashed, then he knows where to find me".
The cards are on the table, and Vince being Vince, he's going to try his hardest to make it happen. Previous reports have suggested this as the tentative main event, which makes sense; if you're capable of promoting a WrestleMania-calibre main event just as fans are returning to your shows, then why would you not? That Reigns and Cena both seem keen for the match themselves is nothing other than an added bonus.
If WWE were to go a step forward, they could quite easily tease this as Cena's retirement match. As eccentric as his and Bray Wyatt's Firefly Fun House match from last year's WrestleMania was, it's hardly going to be the farewell performance of one of professional wrestling's most polarising figures.
Having him do the job to someone deemed his successor, though? Money. And lots of it.
