10 Missed Opportunities In Brock Lesnar’s WWE Career

3. Losing First Match Back To John Cena At Extreme Rules 2012

Wins and losses don't matter that much in professional wrestling. Some people think they do, but those are the kinds of fans that take the wrestling business a little too seriously. If a wrestler loses a match on Raw, negative fans might think that guy is being "buried" even though it's just a loss to help tell a story. There are some cases, though, where losses can be very, very stupid. An example of a stupid loss was Extreme Rules 2012, when Lesnar returned to WWE after eight years away and faced poster boy Cena. Lesnar was on offense for the majority of the match, Cena got some offense at the end and abruptly pinned The Next Big Thing. The reaction from fans at the time was a loud "HUH?" because people couldn't believe that they would pay all that money to bring Lesnar in and have him lose. IN HIS FIRST MATCH. Much like the loss to Triple H, this one was hard to understand. It's not like Cena needed wins since he was the most pushed guy in the company. Plus, Cena's next opponent at the following PPV was John Laurinaitis, who was an onscreen General Manager. That means that WWE used Brock Lesnar in his first match in eight long years to put over the guy that feuded with a retired wrestler at the next show. Lesnar should have won every match for at least two or three years after his return in order to maximize his value. Instead, he lost his first match back. What a joke. It was one of the worst booking decisions in recent times and probably the worst in Lesnar's career.
