10 Misused WWE Wrestlers Who Got Released And STILL Struggled
3. Damien Sandow
Typically when a wrestler is wished the best with their future endeavours, it is a disappointing but inevitable occurrence. But when Damien Sandow found himself released from the company, it kicked up a storm. He even became a top-five Twitter trend in the United States as fans everywhere were shocked that WWE would release a superstar who was so over with the crowd.
He soon began taking Independent bookings under the name Aron Stevens and did somewhat alright, with a stint in WCPW giving him a brief a main event spot. After he signed with Impact, there were hopes that this high-status would continue. Unfortunately, his initial time in TNA as Aron Rex was plagued by dull matches, and a lack of flair.
He was the inaugural Grand Champion, but this came after dropping everything that fans grew to love about Sandow in the first place, with Rex struggling as a straight-shooting babyface. After a hiatus, he debuted a flashy new character, but ironically it was far too much. His Liberace-inspired gimmick was full of pomp and circumstance but brought him no success with fans or his booking.
He's currently surviving quite well as a comic relief character in inactive NWA, but it's a far cry from where fans thought he would go.
