10 Modern Wrestling Pops That Sent Shivers Down Your Spine
8. Bayley Wins The Big One
Sasha Banks vs Bayley came at a crucial time for the women's revolution.
WWE had done a tremendous job of botching the hard work of their talented female roster by shoving them all into factions, which had the effect of getting precisely nobody over with the crowd. Furthermore, the women were generally given one segment per episode of Raw, two if they were lucky, meaning any matches between opposing factions contained little in the way of actual story.
Bayley and Sasha's match flew in the face of that. In front of NXT's largest ever crowd at the time, the two told a relatively simple story, but one that resonated with the crowd perfectly. Sasha was the arrogant heel who was as infuriating as she was brilliant in the ring, while Bayley was the plucky underdog who was just trying to make her dreams come true.
The two worked one of the very best matches in WWE that year, with the highlight being the Reverse Frankensteiner off the top rope Bayley hit on Sasha just before the finish. When Bayley slammed Sasha into the mat and the referee counted to three, it created one of the most emotional pops of the decade.
Not only had the two just told one of the best stories ever seen in a WWE ring, but they had just changed the game when it came to women's wrestling.
