10 Moments That Cemented Your Love For Professional Wrestling
4. Jon Moxley's AEW Debut (AEW Double Or Nothing, 25 May 2019)
The formation of All Elite Wrestling brought with it a sense of hope.
WWE's dreary style was causing an uproar on r/SquaredCircle. Something had to be done to provide an alternative in the same vein as World Championship Wrestling managed to achieve during another dull WWE period.
Their inaugural event, the 2019 Double Or Nothing pay-per-view, was a landmark event in pro wrestling lore. It created this feeling of actually loving the sport again, but no match or moment better encapsulated this than when Jon Moxley strutted through the crowd to end the show. The roars from the audience grew as more and more became aware of Mox's arrival. It had been assumed he'd be there, sure, but, much like Edge's return, it didn't quite feel real, given that he'd left behind the Dean Ambrose character just one month prior.
Yet, here he was, the future 'Purveyor of Violence'. The industry-changing, promotion-defining, Jon Moxley. He was cheered for everything he did that evening, but he'd receive just as loud a pop had he stood there, motionless, opposite Chris Jericho for a few minutes. His arrival was sufficient. AEW had pulled off their first major coup - Jericho doesn't count, owing to his New Japan work in the months before - and the fans lapped up the atmosphere.
It was everything a pro wrestling debut should be.
