10 Moments That Defined Impact Wrestling In 2020
2. Impact Is All Elite
For all the craziness that has come in 2020, the last thing any wrestling fan expected was to see Kenny Omega, fresh off his AEW World Championship victory, appearing on an Impact Wrestling-promoted event.
But that he did, as 'The Cleaner', flanked by Impact EVP Don Callis, was shown at the conclusion of the 8 December edition of Impact for a sit-down interview alongside Josh Mathews. Not only that, but AEW president Tony Khan and commentator Tony Schiavone also popped up earlier in the evening for a paid advertisement, Khan even going so far as to address the rumours of him purchasing the Nashville-based promotion.
For all parties involved, Kenny's Impact debut was a superb move. Needless to say, Omega is a bonafide megastar, and his appearance further promoted AEW as a company, as he teased a huge announcement for the following night's edition of Dynamite.
As for Impact? They saw a huge ratings increase compared to last week's show - a 60% increase, to be more precise.
Obviously, this can't be the case every week, since Kenny isn't contractually obligated to appear on Impact programming. For this one episode, though, Impact Wrestling was at the top of wrestling fans' minds for all the positive reasons.
