10 Moments That Literally Stopped AEW Wrestling Matches
4. Cody “Ramps” Up The Tension
Cody Rhodes' one and only AEW World Championship match was against Chris Jericho at Full Gear 2019. The Grandson of a Plumber had promised never to challenge for the belt again if he lost this match, adding some tremendous stakes to an already tense encounter.
The two men had an excellent match, which is remembered for three things; Cody losing, MJF turning mega heel on him after the bell, and for Rhodes leaving a crater the size of Mexico in the entrance ramp off a suicide dive.
The layout of the Royal Farms arena meant that the walkway was elevated to the same height as the ring itself. So, when Jericho dodged Cody's tope, the Prince of Wrestling was driven headfirst into the ramp by his own momentum and ended up covered in blood.
The match was stopped whilst Cody's wound was seen to, but the madman got up and finished the contest. Then again, this was the same guy who willingly got hit over the head full force with a chair a few months earlier, so we shouldn't really have been shocked.
