10 More Controversial Times Wrestlers Went Off-Script
2. Ronda Rousey Rants About Going "Off-Script" - WWE Raw, 2019
Ronda Rousey's turbulent relationship with the WWE Universe appeared to go to new extremes back in March 2019.
As the then-Raw Women's Champion recorded what was her latest instalment of the "Ronda on the Road" YouTube series, Rousey would boldly claim that her outburst on Raw on March 4 "wasn't a promo. [WWE] gave me other things to say, I didn’t f*cking say it."
Now, it'd be foolish to think that WWE would happily allow Rousey to take shots at the industry by oddly boasting how it's "scripted" and "not real" in her video blog without being in on the act. But the fact the company felt this was the best way to sell an incoming WrestleMania 35 clash between Rousey, Becky Lynch, and Charlotte Flair was as baffling to fans then as it is today.
In reality, this was the company simply making the best of an unexpected situation, with Rousey being largely rejected in arenas on the back of The Man's rise to the top. Yet, Rousey's peeling back of the curtain felt about as far from legit and impactful as it gets for a fighter who made a career out of both of those elements in the UFC.
