7. Undermining The WWE Title

Stop me if you've heard this one: fans were quite upset when the WWE Title match didn't main event the PPV. From Bret Hart to CM Punk to AJ Styles, WWE has had a history of relegating the champ who has superior talent, but not the "star cache" (for lack of a better phrase) to justify an automatic main event.

It was one thing for AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura's WWE title bouts to be billed under the Roman Reigns/Brock Lesnar matches at WrestleMania and Greatest Royal Rumble. However, fans completely lost patience at Backlash, when Styles and Nakamura played second fiddle to Roman Reigns and Samoa Joe: a match that had nothing at stake and was designed just to give The Big Dog a treat (I mean, PPV win).

Aside from the usual accusations of "shoving Roman down our throats," it's once again a case of WWE undermining their main title when there's really no rationale to do so. This is especially the case when Brock Lesnar, the other world champion, is nowhere to be seen.

What once was thought to be a dream feud in WWE has now just become a midcard distraction fans just wish was over by now.
