Dear Lord, where to even begin with this one? At WrestleMania WWE decided it was time for the next big step in the evolution of their product and went all in on cinematic matches. Both the Boneyard and Firefly Funhouse matches were hailed as inventive, exciting, perhaps even masterpieces.

Fast-forward to Backlash, they decided it was time for another dose of cinematic medicine, this time with the Profits and the Raiders. And boy oh boy did this go off the rails.

The two teams were scheduled to have a tag match but started brawling before they even got to the ring. At first they were just throwing fists. But then, the insanity meter got turned up to 1100. Erik was brandishing an axe, there were bowling balls getting rolled onto human balls, camera crew displaying the magical power to record inside Ivar’s thoughts. It was utter carnage.

Finally we saw the debut of Tozawa and his ninja clan, Ivar magically summoning a turkey leg and to end it all, all four men were thrown in the garbage, where a squid monster crept up on them.

Now make no mistake this was so stupid that you were bound to get a kick out of it at some point. But overall it stretched the fantasy elements a little too much, not to mention making yet another mockery of the tag division.

After battling Galactus and pinning Hulk Hogan in the main event of Wrestlemania, I've taken a break from living in fantasy worlds, to focus on writing about them. I'm a comic book geek, a wrestling mark, a break dancer, and a scientist. One of those things may not be true.
