3. Bret "Hitman" Hart

Not every great wrestler needs to be a physical powerhouse in order for fans to believe in them. In fact, if one were to go completely on the performance aspect of pro wrestling, no one was ever more believable than Bret "Hitman" Hart.

Bret always gave his all in his performances, including a consistent focus on selling, constant attempts at innovation, and a commitment to making his matches look and feel real. Bret perfected the art's little details not seen today, like leaving his mouth open as if he was huffing-and-puffing, grasping for air (despite not being legitimately gassed), or getting in the referee's face after that close 2-count.

Despite his excellent abilities, you'll never once see a Bret Hart match in the WWF where it looks like he's "performing". Nothing feels fake or choreographed, and he can't be seen calling spots. Even his interviews are ultra serious, focusing on the task at hand of defeating his opponent. Segments like his pre-match SummerSlam '92 promo, his interview work building to WrestleMania VIII, and his entire 1997 heel run and the months leading up to it are just a few examples of classic, believable Bret Hart.

He's unfairly criticized for "taking himself too seriously", when the reality is more talents need to treat their character as seriously as Bret did.
