A perfect example of the corrupt referee, Danny Davis always favoured the heels during the matches he officiated, infamously aiding The Hart Foundation in their quest to wrestle the Tag-Team Titles from The British Bulldogs in 1987. After that match, Davis was "fired" as a WWF referee, but would quickly join up with manager Jimmy Hart, rebranding himself as a wrestler called 'Dangerous' Danny Davis. Largely working as enhancement talent, the story in the man's matches was that every babyface wanted a crack at him, because he'd been responsible for costing them a match at some point beforehand. By 1989, the character had lost steam, and Davis was reinstated as a ref, but put on probation, having to prove he really was a changed man. For at least a little while, Davis garnered tremendous heat with fans, who hated the thought of their favourites being handicapped by a money-grabbing referee. The character was brilliant in its simplicity, with Danny Davis never once denying that he was a cheat, instead gloating that he could do whatever he wanted.
