8. Jeff Hardy Throws Urine In Sheamus' Face
Wrestling is built around extremes. Wild and out-there characters, body types, and storylines that take little notice of the usual standards of taste and decency. A line must be drawn somewhere, though, and an argument can be made that an angle mocking Jeff Hardy for his struggles with substance abuse may be going a little too far.
This is especially true of the centrepiece to this angle, in which Hardy was prompted to give a urine sample to prove his sobriety. Hardy then launched the beaker of yellow liquid right into Sheamus’ face, because of course he did.
Hardy had signed off on this angle, but all the same the whole thing left a bad taste in viewers’ mouths. Jeff’s issues have been so public and long-ranging, and this was inviting us to chuckle at problems that afflict a great many people. The comedy stuff was grimy, and the dramatic stuff was just stupid.
Most annoyingly of all, the matches the two put on were actually really decent! There was no need for any of the surrounding nonsense, which made what should have been a fine feud borderline unwatchable.
