On paper, an episode of Raw that aired on 3 March 2014 sounds ridiculously nondescript; the kind of show that would probably feature a match as tedious as, say, Santino Marella and Emma versus Fandango and Summer Rae.

But fans - at least the kind of fans who spend their waking moments scouring the internet in search of vaguely credible yet completely outlandish rumours - went into this night head-over-heels excited, for one simple reason: CM Punk.

The Straight Edge Superstar had just walked out on WWE at this point, his formal release from the company yet to be officially confirmed. So when Dave Meltzer told WON listeners that his insider sources reckoned Punk would be showing up on a Chicago-hosted Raw, there was every reason to believe him.

In the end, however, it turned out that the usually reliable journalist had been misled (perhaps deliberately). Punk didn't make an appearance, although his entrance music did briefly sound before Paul Heyman walked out in his place - which proves that Vince McMahon is one hell of a troll.
