10 Most Disappointing Nights In WWE History

8. SummerSlam 2007

Though not exactly a vintage WWE year, 2007 largely succeeded in delivering high-quality "Big Four" shows - with one exception. SummerSlam, whose tagline - "the party is over" - turned out to be a prophecy - was a major disappointment.

Two of the major reasons for this were the underwhelming matches that followed the long-awaited returns of much-loved duo Rey Mysterio and Triple H. It wasn't their fault - they were, quite understandably, a long way from full fitness - but these just weren't pay-per-view calibre encounters.

The main event, wherein a super-intense, temple-punting Randy Orton challenged Superman John Cena for the WWE Championship, delivered in terms of quality but its result was a major letdown. This was exactly the moment to relieve Big Match John of his throne - and yet they had him retain.

Everything else, meanwhile, had the whiff of a card thrown together at the very last minute. Batista faced The Great Khali, Kane took on Finlay, and Umaga, Carlito and Mr Kennedy - three heels - contested a triple threat. There was nothing to get excited about.
