8. Royal Rumble 2005
In 2005, WWE had managed to create some new stars at the top of the card. Both Dave Batista and John Cena were very much over with fans, and they contested the end of the '05 Royal Rumble. The circumstances were wholly organic compared to the conclusion of the '94 Rumble. During that one, both Luger and Hart deliberately fell to the floor at the same time. At the Rumble in 2005, Cena and Batista did it accidentally. The 'co-winning' scenario was not in the original booking plans, and thing were made even more dramatic when Vince McMahon came strutting out. Likely legitimately furious that things had been messed up, Vince was none too careful when rolling into the ring. Incredibly, the boss banged his knee on the ring apron, tearing his quadriceps muscle in the process. From a seated position, McMahon ordered that the match be restarted. From there, the planned winner emerged victorious. Batista tossed Cena over the top rope and went on to WrestleMania 21 as scheduled. The drama was here more in the real life screw up, rather than the actual plans.
