In a smart callback to Cena's own impressive debut against Kurt Angle, Kevin Owens's Monday Night RAW career began when John Cena issued an open challenge to the boys in the back. If they wanted to take his United States Championship, they could "come get some." And get some Owens did.

Unlike Cena's debut, which saw him lose to Kurt Angle in a similar open challenge, Owens actually came out on the winning end of this exchange. A match never technically took place, but Owens trash-talked Cena like few men can, pointing out his fifteen year career and claiming both seniority and superiority over 'The Champ', before laying him out cold.

It set up the then-NXT Champion as a force to be reckoned with, elevated both the NXT Championship and the United States Championship, and instantly hammered home KO's character, motivation, and reputation as a prizefighter. It too was aided by fan familiarity with Owens, thanks to NXT and Ring of Honor, but the quality of the segment can only be attributed to the magnetic presence of Owens and the originator of Ruthless Aggression himself.
