WrestleMania IV may not be looked back on so fondly by WWE fans, as it was far from an in-ring spectacle and failed to live up to the same event a year before. The show at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, was built around a 14-man tournament for the vacant WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

The title had been stripped from Andre the Giant for attempting to sell it to the 'Million Dollar Man' Ted DiBiase after defeating Hulk Hogan in a television spectacle. 'The Hulkster' and Andre were eliminated due to double disqualification, which led to an eventual final between 'Macho Man' and DiBiase for the world title in the main event. Savage prevailed to a rapturous reception which completed his journey to being a fan favorite WWE Champion on the same level as Hulk Hogan.
