10 Most Feel-Good Title Wins In Wrestling
9. Johnny Gargano (NXT TakeOver: New York)
NXT was the most critically acclaimed North American wrestling brand towards the end of the 2010s, arguably hitting its peak in 2019 before the beginning of the 'Wednesday Night Wars' with AEW. TakeOver: New York embodied this as the event was the last example of the black and gold brand operating at its best, with a card that was excellent from top to bottom.
The main event of the show saw the 'Heart and Soul of NXT' Johnny Gargano face off against the leader of the Undisputed Era, Adam Cole, in a two out of three falls match for the vacant world title. The underdog Gargano had been chasing the title for some time, coming up short against the likes of Andrade 'Cien' Almas, Aleister Black, and his former friend turned nemesis, Tommaso Ciampa, who had to forfeit the NXT Championship due to injury.
The match was tremendous and played on Cole's UE stablemates interfering to create a plethora of false finishes that garnered even more support for Gargano. In the end, 'Johnny Wrestling' overcame the odds to cap off an all-time great match and TakeOver event.
