10 Most Glaringly Obvious WCW Pushes That Never Happened

3. Chris Benoit

When Chris Benoit was handed the WCW World Title at the Souled Out Pay-Per-View in January, 2000, it was definitely a case of too little, too late for the 'Crippler'. For quite some time, Benoit - along with others such as Dean Malenko, Eddie Guerrero, Perry Saturn, Konnan and Shane Douglas - had been unhappy in WCW, and he wanted out. Standing alongside his friends, Benoit requested his release from the company, and it seems putting the title on him was a last-ditch attempt to convince Benoit to stay. Needless to say, it didn't work, and the man would debut as part of 'The Radicalz' with Malenko, Saturn and Guerrero in the WWF shortly after the PPV. Fascinatingly, Benoit himself offered to drop the WCW World Title to absolutely anybody of the promotion's choosing before he left, wishing to depart with his head held high, but in typical WCW fashion, they simply told him to return the physical belt and not worry about it, thus vacating the strap and putting another nail into the proud history of the title.
