Despite the fact that the ECW One Night Stand shows were a success, December to Dismember - the sole PPV the revived ECW brand put on - was anything but. The lack of a pre-announced card and the brand's dearth of stars made the for lowest-watched PPV event in WWE history.

The main event - one of the few matches that was actually hyped ahead of time - put the cap on an evening of subpar action. The bout was an "Extreme Elimination Chamber" match, or an Elimination Chamber with weapons all around, pitting ECW Champion The Big Show against CM Punk, Hardcore Holly, Test, Rob Van Dam, and Bobby Lashley.

Paul Heyman, who had limited creative input into the brand and the show, reportedly wanted CM Punk to emerge victorious, but Vince McMahon shot that down. Heyman then pitched having the popular Punk eliminate Big Show, but that was also nixed. As a result, Lashley was made the winner, Punk was eliminated first, fans hated the match, and Paul Heyman left WWE.
