Going into WrestleMania XXVIII, Daniel Bryan wasn't exactly showing the most stable of mental make-ups. Despite his erratic moods, AJ Lee (his girlfriend at the time) stood by him nonetheless, and even went so far as to give him a good luck kiss before his big match that night. This didn't do him any good however, as he immediately turned round to be met by a boot to the face from Sheamus. The World Heavyweight Championship was no longer his.

He was obviously keen to continue losing things, and on the next episode of SmackDown AJ and Daniel had it out in the ring. Well, by 'had it out' I mean 'Daniel berated AJ', blaming her for all manner of things including the embarrassing loss at WrestleMania.

Looking back, it is possibly one of the most underrated moments in professional wrestling. Daniel Bryan breaking up with AJ Lee led to the degradation of her character's mental make-up. She would go completely off the rails by summer, before regoruping to become a hugely influential in-ring competitor who kept the credibility of the Divas division afloat single-handed.

The moment also saw Daniel Bryan go in a more serious route on his way to becoming one of the most popular professional wrestlers on the planet.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
