10 Most Heavily Protected Wrestlers In AEW Right Now
6. Christian Cage
Despite an underwhelming debut due to the fact that he wasn't CM Punk, Christian Cage's run in AEW had been an understated highlight of 2021.
Whilst many were sceptical of his replacement of Hangman Page as an opponent for Kenny Omega heading into All Out, 'Sweet TK' has done a fine job of protecting Cage not only as a wily veteran but as one who gets the job done.
When Kenny Omega absconded to IMPACT after winning the AEW World Championship in late 2020, many thought a full-on war would break out. That hasn't been the case and the use of IMPACT has been minimal at best, as has Omega's gimmick as the belt collector.
Enter Christian Cage, an IMPACT legend from their TNA days who not only beat Kenny Omega, he also lifted the belt from his shoulder and now represents the company as their figurehead for the first time in fourteen years. Often considered the 'wrestler's wrestler, Cage has been presented as one of the top guys in AEW since his arrival, climbing the rankings and only losing the second match to Omega due to shenanigans.
Keeping Cage strong is intrinsic to his ongoing storyline with Jungle Boy, who will no doubt get a huge rub by beating 'The Instant Classic' when the time is right.
