10 Most Important Weeks In The Monday Night War

1. May 27th 1996 - WCW Nitro Goes To Two Hours And Scott Hall Debuts

WCW gaining a second hour for Nitro less than 12 months after debuting in September was a grand achievement, not least considering that Raw wouldn't be given that same token by USA for another year. That they toasted the moment by kicking off an angle that would reignite the entire industry served to underscore just how committed they were to becoming the new North American Number One.

Hall's confident stride down the steps during a nothing match between The Mauler and Steve Doll has been replayed countless times but loses no value thanks to the history he's about to make.

Within a month, WCW were about to mount a seemingly unassailable lead in the ratings whilst going forth with a record breaking run of pay-per-views and live events. An underwhelming week on the other side saw an Ultimate Warrior/Goldust match go to a non-finish and Ahmed Johnson suffer his first televised loss. Little was working, but even the good stuff wasn't in a position to stand a chance for the better part of 83 weeks.
