10 Most INSANE Promises Wrestling Promoters Made To Wrestlers

4. Kevin Nash & Scott Hall’s ‘Favoured Nations’

It was good to be Kevin Nash and Scott Hall in 1996. WCW brought them in on big, fat guaranteed contracts to help launch the new nWo storyline, and that was a welcome boost after years of gritting their teeth on the WWF's less impressive pay structure. Things would get even better for The Outsiders during negotiations with Eric Bischoff.

They managed to get a 'favoured nations' clause in their contracts. Basically, if WCW signed somebody for more money than Nash or Hall, then they’d automatically be bumped up to match it. This ensured that they were always amongst the top earners no matter what happened business-wise.

Nash and Hall have been open in the past (via various shoot interviews) about encouraging workers to ask for more money, like Goldberg. Why wouldn't they? If Bill, Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, Randy Savage, Roddy Piper, DDP, Ric Flair or any other WCW stars received a pay increase, then they would too. They were quids in if anyone was a better negotiator.

That'd be a tough task though - Nash and Hall were shrewd, and they squeezed the WCW coffers for every dime they could. 'Favoured nations' made it crystal clear that they'd be flush with cash regardless of what they were doing creatively. That came in handy once the bloom came off the nWo rose, and even when Hall was off TV due to much-publicised personal problems.

Promising talent they'll get paid mega bucks irrespective of what they bring to the party? That's risky, but WCW wanted to become a WWF beater by any means necessary.
