6. He Almost Died After A Match

The Legend: That Scott Steiner almost died after a match in Puerto Rico in 2007.

Why People Believe It: Steiner was kicked hard in the throat by his opponent Apolo during a match on a TNA house show on 3 June 2007. Steiner began coughing up blood at the hotel later and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. He was diagnosed with a torn trachea and given only a few hours to live. While doctors were working on the angry and confused Steiner, he was fighting them every step of the way, trying to get his buddy to come and pick him up in his private jet. Had that have happened, Steiner would have died because the change in air pressure would have collapsed his lung. Steiner was put into an induced coma for a couple of days while doctors cut through his ribs and lung to repair the tear. After all of that, they spent two weeks draining fluid from Freakzilla's lungs. The process caused Steiner to balloon in size and it took a little while longer for him to recover after he got a cruise ship home.

Is It True: Yes, Steiner was five hours away from certain death. A torn trachea is no joke and the Puerto Rican doctors and nurses saved his life. Speaking about the whole thing, Steiner commented that, "I was kind of messed up for three or four months, knowing that I could have been dead," but that he eventually got over the incident.
