10 Most Obscure Title Wins In WWE History
7. Debra - Women's Title
Even though we’ve moved on from the Hardcore Championship,
up next we have another non-wrestler who somehow managed to win herself a
title - specifically, the old WWE Women’s title.
“How did that happen?” I hear you ask. Well, the short answer is 'the Attitude Era', while the long answer involves a bikini contest, Shawn Michaels and a questionable piece of refereeing.
Debra had been booked to “wrestle” Sable for the Women’s Championship in a lesser-seen Evening Gown match. Here, the winner would be the woman who managed to forcibly remove her opponent’s dress, thus sending the crowd (and Jerry Lawler) home happy.
So when Sable sneaked up on an unsuspecting Debra and removed her little red number, you’d have been forgiven for assuming that the champion would have therefore retained the title.
But guest commentator (and WWE Commissioner) Shawn Michaels
had other ideas. He entered the ring and declared that “with puppies like that”, it was Debra who should be deemed the winner. She would hold the title for an impressive total of
29 days, managing a contrastingly unimpressive zero title defences in the process.
