10 Most One-Sided Brutal Beatdowns In UFC History
8. BJ Penn Vs. Joe Stevenson - UFC 80
One of the biggest problems with BJ Penn's career is the inconsistency of his performances. As you'll see later on in this list, sometimes the lightweight legend simply didn't turn up to fights like he was supposed to and got annihilated in the process. However, when The Prodigy was in shape, feeling sharp and in his zone, you'll be hard-pressed to find many other 155lber's better than him.
His fight against Joe Stevenson, who was on an impressive four-fight win streak heading into the bout, was the perfect example of Penn being at the height of his powers. When it came to the striking exchanges, the Hawaiian was always first to the punch, landing whenever he saw fit. However, when the fight went to the ground, that's where Penn showed that Stevenson didn't belong in the same Octagon as him.
Despite being an accomplished black belt himself, Stevenson was no match for Penn's slick transitions and vicious ground and pound. The grim laceration created by Penn's elbow and the tears of disappointment that ran down Stevenson's face after their first round are iconic.
While he tried valiantly to get back into the fight, Penn simply proved to be too much for his opponent, leaving him in a pool of blood in the Octagon after submitting him with a rear naked choke in the second round.
