NJPW

The first time Okada emerges on a New Japan stage once all the pandemic business is properly over is going to be a seismic reaction. That company can boast a stacked roster, but there’s simply no one around more exciting than the Rainmaker, and there’s no doubt NJPW crowds will make that clear when they’re allowed to do so.

Like many of the top stars, it just takes one sound to let you know we’re about to get to it - in Okada’s case the “ching!” of the poker chip hitting the ground. This most simple of noises is usually enough to send the fans crazy, and that’s before Okada’s theme kicks in. It’s one of the promotion’s finest, a ludicrously excessive hair metal number that suits the performer magnificently whether working face or heel.

From there, Okada’s entrance takes a nicely old-fashioned bent - he doesn’t need to play to the crowd or work particularly hard to get them behind him. He dresses great, has an abundance of swagger, and effortlessly reassures the crowd that they’re going to have a good time.
