Is there any other wrestler in WWF/E history who made an entire career out of simply waving the American flag (and another inanimate object, a 2x4) and chanting, €œUSA!€ over and over? While €œHacksaw€ Jim Duggan€™s pre-WWF career was dynamic, he became a flag-waving character upon joining Vince McMahon€™s company in 1987.

Duggan started out by interrupting Nikolai Volkoff€™s renditions of the Russian national anthem, which set the tone for his run with the WWF. Hacksaw would carry the Stars and Stripes to ringside and lead the crowd in €œUSA!€ chants, making him the perfect foil for any foreign heel. In addition to Volkoff, Duggan battled the likes of Dino Bravo, Boris Zhukov and Yokozuna in his initial run in the company.

Even in the 2000s, Duggan could be counted on to make a surprise appearance in WWE to pop the crowd when a pro-America moment is needed. That€™s a sign that you€™re widely regarded as a patriotic performer €“ when your mere presence elicits a patriotic response from the audience.

Scott is a former journalist and longtime wrestling fan who was smart enough to abandon WCW during the Monday Night Wars the same time as the Radicalz. He fortunately became a fan in time for WrestleMania III and came back as a fan after a long high school hiatus before WM XIV. Monday nights in the Carlson household are reserved for viewing Raw -- for better or worse.
