During the Monday Night War, a lot of things were said and a lot of things were done on both sides of the conflict. It was one of those alls fair situations, where complaining about it just makes that side look weak. That didnt stop the two sides from litigation, of course you have to maintain your position but everyone knew they had a proper fight on their hands. Still, there are some things that go a little too far, and Oklahoma was one of them. Ex-WWF writer Ed Ferrera had previously performed a harmless impression of WWF announcer Jim J.R. Ross on WWF television, and decided that hed air his grievances with his former employers by taking that impersonation and creating a parodic on-air character named after Ross home state that only existed to rip Ross to pieces. Ross, one of the most respected men in the industry, didnt think it was so amusing, and neither did anyone else especially when the insults moved on to mocking the Bells Palsy that J.R. suffered from. From all reports, Ross and Ferrera have buried the hatchet at the time though, the backlash against Oklahoma was fierce, and not just from WWF fans and employees. WCW fans hated the gimmick, as Ross had been highly thought of when hed worked for the promotion years earlier and from all reports, Jim Cornette threatened to take Fererra to the woodshed over it. It didnt achieve anything except being spiteful it damaged real life relationships between Ross and Dr. Death Steve Williams, his long time friend, who Oklahoma was intended to manage, and it threw TV time at one of the shows writers instead of one of the shows performers. What a tasteless waste of everyones time.
