They were technically a stable, but it’s more or less the same idea so it gets a pass. With that being said, there really is not one shadow of a doubt that CM Punk’s band of brainwashed followers were a tremendous act and deserved far better.

Originally formed in the aftermath of Punk’s brilliant rivalry with Jeff Hardy (you know, when bringing up real-world struggles at least contributed to the story and didn’t involve piss throwing...), Punk was joined by Luke Gallows as his muscle. The backstory here was that the former Festus had been addicted to certain medications that Punk had helped him overcome. The duo later recruited Serena and then Joey Mercury, for some reason.

Their whole shtick was berating people for turning to alcohol and drugs. Despite being villains, their rhetoric was powerful and ultimately well placed. If WWE had taken full stock in them, this could have led to some amazing high profile storylines, especially since Punk was a world champ at the time.

But as we all know, it was not to be. Punk dropped his title, the SES engaged in a series of enjoyable midcard feuds, before inevitably disbanding because of internal dissension. There was not even any fallout as Gallows and Serena were both released from the company. All that potential, all wasted.

After battling Galactus and pinning Hulk Hogan in the main event of Wrestlemania, I've taken a break from living in fantasy worlds, to focus on writing about them. I'm a comic book geek, a wrestling mark, a break dancer, and a scientist. One of those things may not be true.
