10 Most Pointless WWE Title Wins
5. Road Dogg Defeats Val Venis
For around a month in early 1999, beloved combo the New Age Outlaws had been distracted with singles pursuits, thanks to Billy Gunn's involvement in the Intercontinental Title chase alongside Ken Shamrock and Val Venis, whilst Road Dogg fought anyone and everyone in brutal wars over the Hardcore Title.
Keeping the duo separate for WrestleMania 15 in March, WWE had booked multi-man matches for both titles which could see both Outlaws walk away from the 'Show of Shows' with glistening singles titles to add to their respective résumés.
Then, two weeks before WrestleMania, Billy Gunn competed for and won the Hardcore title. On the same night, Road Dogg wrestled his partner's rivals and snared his first ever Intercontinental Title.
Despite providing a nice surprise for the live crowd, it was completely stupid and counter-productive to the booking of WrestleMania.
The champions were forced to switch matches, leaving Road Dogg in a fatal four-way with three men he had no history, whilst Gunn to was required to enter a triple threat hardcore match with zero previous interaction with his opponents.
Worse still, Gunn lost his title to Hardcore Holly at WrestleMania itself whilst Road Dogg dropped his to Goldust the next night on the post-WrestleMania Raw.
