10 Most Polarizing Wrestlers Working Today

To yeet, or not to yeet? That is the question.

With the latest WWE Royal Rumble officially in the books, it's safe to say that this year's winners were a tad more contentious than 2024's popular winning duo of Bayley and Cody Rhodes.

Online reaction to Jey Uso and Charlotte Flair's Royal Rumble wins was mixed, to say the least, as wrestling fans vented their spleens over the untossed duo. Both Jey and Charlotte have their share of detractors and supporters, which naturally led to the thought: which other active wrestlers manage to elicit both fervent adoration and unbridled scorn from the modern wrestling fan?

Wrestlers splitting fan opinion is hardly a new phenomenon (hell, this writer wrote an article on the subject four years ago). The 2010s were dominated by the dueling chants of "Let's Go Cena/Cena Sucks!", and Shawn Michaels was both loved and loathed throughout the nineties as his incredible ability and boyish good looks were offset by his obnoxious attitude both on and off-screen.

So, without further ado, let's look at the first entrant on this particular list. And if you clicked on the above link, you may notice we're starting things off with a familiar face...

10. Charlotte Flair

The last time this writer discussed divisive wrestlers, Charlotte took the no.1 spot. Back in 2020, Charlotte had legions of fans who adored for her sensational wrestling ability, as she stuffed her resume with mat classics against the the Asuka, Sasha Banks and Rhea Ripley. However, there were an equal number of detractors who pointed out that the majority of Charlotte's opponents were worse off after feuding with her, and that they were sick of WWE placing all its eggs in a Flair-shaped basket.

Flash forward to the present day and, while Charlotte deservedly retains a huge number of fans for her unquestionable wrestling skill, her detractors have only become louder and greater in number.

Despite missing over a year of her career due to injury, Charlotte's return to regular TV saw her roundly booed by a RAW audience who were clearly less than enamored with her Rumble win the night before. You can understand their frustration - people were getting sick of Charlotte being pushed to the moon five years ago, and WWE have clearly learned nothing during Flair's prolonged hiatus.

Charlotte will always have fans due to her unparalleled work-rate, but it's telling that her 13-month absence did not engender feelings of fondness from many of the WWE faithful.
