Well, that Royal Rumble match between DIY and Motor City Machine Guns sure was something, wasn't it? It's been a while since this writer has seen such an objectively good match play out to such deafening silence. While slightly uncomfortable to watch, the match did help to illustrate the problem with DIY - namely, the ever-widening gap between how they're perceived by WWE Creative and WWE fans.

WWE head honcho Triple H clearly loves DIY, and he has plenty of justification for doing so. Back in the good old days of NXT, Johnny Gargano and Tomasso Ciampa carried the black and gold brand on their shoulders, first with dazzling tag team displays and then with their brutal, incredible rivalry. Backed by great matches and stellar storytelling, it's small wonder HHH and the fans were united in their love for the dazzling duo.

Unfortunately, times have changed. While DIY's prominent screen time shows that Triple H's love for the pair remains undimmed, the fans' ardor has cooled significantly. When 65,000 people sit on their hands during a title match at one of the biggest events of the year, it's safe to say something has gone awry.

Here's hoping WWE can work their magic on the beleaguered duo, so the fans may once again join in the love affair between HHH and DIY to create a happy, supportive throuple.
