Whether he was playing the blue-collar babyface or brutal, SWAT-like heel, The Big Boss Man carried a night stick with him to ringside. During his initial years in the then-WWF, Boss Man was a villain. Not only did the baton fit his correction officer gimmick, it also gave him a weapon to use against babyfaces.

That was true later in his career too, although there was a period when fans revelled in seeing Boss Man thump heels with the stick. Under the guise of serving justice, the wrestler was able to explain away the fact that he was effectively using a weapon to gain the advantage.

Just like brass knuckles with William Regal or the megaphone with Jimmy Hart, the night stick is something that instantly makes people think of The Big Boss Man. No wrestler could use the item today without coming across as either a rip off or tribute to Boss Man.

Simple and effective, the night stick really helped add to the threat of The Big Boss Man's character. This was especially true when heel, yet also worked when he was seeking cheers.
