In summer 1984, The Road Warriors were in their prime and at their most menacing when they captured the AWA World Tag Team Championship from Baron Von Raschke & The Crusher. This began a dominant title reign that lasted over a year. They feuded with some of the top teams in wrestling such as The Fabulous Ones, The Fabulous Freebirds, and The Koloffs.

During this time, Animal & Hawk also became a force in Japan by defeating some of their top teams in impressive fashion. Pro wrestling fans knew the Road Warriors wouldn’t be champions forever but what they didn’t know is that the monsters from Chicago would lose the belts to the least likely of combinations. With an assist from The Fabulous Freebirds, the team of ‘Gorgeous’ Jimmy Garvin and ‘Mr. Electricity’ Steve Regal shocked the wrestling world by lifting the belts from Animal & Hawk.
