Was this a case of art imitating life, or life imitating art? According to legend, the on-screen tension between that began to mount in the late 1980s between Mega Powers Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage closely mirrored a concurrent breakdown in their relationship behind the scenes.

At the heart of both, if reports are to be believed, was their shared affection for Miss Elizabeth, Savage's real life spouse, who managed the Macho Man for years before the Hulkster came along and started flexing his considerable muscles in her direction.

In front of the cameras, this came to a head during a heated backstage confrontation in front of Elizabeth, who lay strewn on a hospital bed after getting injured at ringside.

After his partner's pleas for calm fell on deaf ears, Savage unleashed a vicious assault right in front of the woman he was trying to impress (which is probably not a good way of winning someone's affections in the real world). This set up the grudge match to end them all at WrestleMania V, where Hogan claimed the WWF Title in the main event.
