10 Most Shocking WWE Draft Moments
2. Switch Headsets
It wouldn't be the first time and sadly wouldn't be the last, but WWE used their 2008 Draft to make a historic announcer change that would serve mainly to humiliate Jim Ross yet again.
A complete breakdown in a Raw vs Smackdown Divas match between Victoria and Melina inexplicably lead to both brands getting a draft pick (instead of neither), and the 'random' computer threw up a switch between WWE's longest serving broadcaster and the divisive new voice. Jim Ross and Michael Cole then took each other's seats in a horribly awkward sequence.
The camera lingered hard on JR's face as the shock of the move took hold, with revelations in later days confirming the Oklahoman had no idea a shift was coming.
Michael Cole looked none the wiser either, and none too pleased to accept his grand promotion in front of a live audience.
Ross' initial reaction to the move was fury, with an online commentary on his personal website suggesting he'd refuse to do any of the extra post-production work Smackdown usually required. Nonetheless, he gamely accepted his demotion in short order, and took to the booth alongside Mick Foley and later Tazz as one of the blue brand's biggest new draft picks.
