10 Most Surreal Moments In UFC History
7. UFC Fight Night 170 Going Ahead In An Empty Arena
UFC 151 earned its place on this list as the first time that the organisation decided to completely cancel a card on extremely short notice, but the fact that UFC Fight Night 170 actually took place is just as surreal.
Headlined by a bout between Kevin Lee and Charles Oliveira, the event looked set to crown a new contender in the stacked 155lbs division.
Though the fight would go on, with Oliveira delivering an emphatic performance en route to a third-round submission victory, the circumstances surrounding the event reached unprecedented territories for the UFC.
Due to the current global situation, it was announced just days before the event was set to take place that the entire card would go on behind closed doors, meaning only fighters, their cornermen, and UFC officials would be in attendance for the event.
What followed was a truly strange, but also entirely fascinating, night of fights. Much like bouts contested in The Ultimate Fighter, the lack of crowd meant that the sound of every strike reverberated around the arena, and the advice of both combatants corners could be clearly heard.
Though there's no timeframe of when exactly the UFC will return, it looks likely that the first events will take place without an audience and be similarly surreal.
