For all that renewed focus on transparency, WWE still runs a pretty tight ship, which means we really don't know all the ins and outs of what has changed since the Chris Benoit tragedy in 2007 (and since most of its current employees weren't around a decade ago, they probably wouldn't be able to tell us even if they wanted to).

What's clear, however, is that the event placed yet more scrutiny on the company's Wellness policies, and specifically what they were (or weren't) doing to guard against substance abuse and head injuries, both of which were alleged to be factors behind Benoit's actions on that fateful day in June.

As noted, the decision to take on a more family-friendly guise was just a year removed from the news, and you would have to assume this played a part in that as well.
