10 Most Underrated WWE Royal Rumble Performers
6. Goldust
There are very few guys who can compete with Goldust when it comes to longevity and consistency. And while that statement could apply to his entire career, it’s especially true of his record in the Rumble.
Since his first outing back in 1997, his tally now stands at 11 Rumble bouts in 19 years across multiple stints in the company, the high point of which was easily his surprise return in 2013.
His arrival at number eight garnered a pretty nice pop from the Phoenix crowd, largely because his real-life half-brother, Cody Rhodes, was awaiting him in ring in disbelief. A scuffle ensued which seemed to sow the seeds for a showdown at WrestleMania, and though that never manifested it was nonetheless a sweet Rumble moment.
It wasn’t the first time he’s surprised us with a return at the event though. In 2002 he got another big reaction when he emerged at number two, but along the way he’s also been happy to perform in far less prominent roles. Take 2003 for example, when he was fed to Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin to help get the newcomers over.
From both ends of the spectrum, and for the better part of two decades now, Goldust has been a welcome addition to many a Rumble contest.
