This was a rematch from the Angle/Guerrero match at WrestleMania 20 earlier in 2004. Most people remember that match more because it was at WrestleMania. Guerrero won after untying his boot, which fooled Angle and led to Guerrero winning with a small package to retain the WWE Title. When they did the rematch at SummerSlam 2004 it was after Angle took several months off to heal from his injuries and this match felt a lot more personal. It was a solid match with a lot of psychology as Angle focused in on the left ankle of Guerrero all match long. We had become so used to seeing Eddie coming back when he was down that we expected it to happen one more time. However. Angle was so focused in this match that when we thought Guerrero was going to make the big comeback it just didn't happen. They didn't do all the big spots where they kick out at two all the time at the finish, but they told a good story. It was also done as a sequel to the WrestleMania 20 match where Guerrero outsmarted Angle. This time the boot was untied because he was in pain from having the ankle worked on. The final five minutes were very competitive as they did big moves like a top rope suplex by Angle, then Guerrero hit a DDT to counter the Angle Slam and Angle moved out of the way to avoid a Frog Splash. Guerrero kicked out at two after an Angle Slam, so Angle realized he had to focus on the ankle. Guerrero's boot was taken off and Angle went for an Ankle Lock. Following a mild ref bump, Guerrero hit Angle and his bodyguard Roman Reigns with a boot to the face. Eddie hit another Frog Splash and Angle kicked out. That didn't happen too often. They were two of the bet in-ring performers ever and they showed why during the finish. Angle was relentless as he applied the Ankle Lock on Eddie's left foot, which was exposed due to the boot being removed. Eddie was forced to tap out as Angle looked very impressive in avenging his loss at WrestleMania 20. Any time two guys as talented as Angle and Guerrero are in the same match you know that it's going to be a classic. That's what this one was even though it's underrated by most people.
