10 Most Underrated WWE SummerSlam Matches Of All Time
6. Intercontinental Title: Rey Mysterio vs. Dolph Ziggler - 2009
Rey Mysterio had been in WWE since 2002, but his best year in the company might have been 2009. He was having amazing matches with everybody and in the summer of 2009 he got to work with a younger wrestler in Dolph Ziggler, who was considered an emerging talent at that time. With Rey as the veteran and Ziggler as the rising star, it was the right kind of match to open SummerSlam 2009. This was also around the time where people really started to take notice of how great an athlete Ziggler was and how good of an in-ring performer he could be. When you can keep up with the speed of Mysterio you can make a name for yourself quickly. That's what Ziggler did here in what was his first SummerSlam match. The best way to describe the match is to say that it was action packed. It seemed like they had a goal in mind where they would go all out for 13 minutes and steal the show. The main event was pretty amazing with Jeff Hardy and CM Punk, so I don't know if the show was stolen, but it was very close. What really stood out in this match were the amount of nearfalls. There were at least 25, if not more. Great "Let's go Ziggler" chant at one point too as the crowd appreciated his work ethic. The finish of the match saw Mysterio counter a move off the top with a hurricanrana. It was an impressive way to move it.
