No Way Out 2009 was a night for the unexpected. In the WWE Championship opener, in fact, title-holder Edge was pinned and eliminated by Jeff Hardy before the first Elimination Chamber pod was even opened, guaranteeing that a new champion would be crowned in the next half-hour.

And they took the same approach in the World Heavyweight Title bout that closed the show. This time it was John Cena - holder of the belt for three months after victory over Chris Jericho at Survivor Series - who was beaten within a few minutes of joining the action.

Granted, it took a Codebreaker, 619 and a Spear to put him away, but this is Big Match John we're talking about. It's rare that a sledge-hammer shot keeps Cena down for the three count, let alone a sequence of wrestling moves.

With no indication that he was carrying an injury, it appears this decision was taken simply in the aid of shocking the crowd, and in turn helping to elevate Rey Mysterio - who made it to the final two - to the position of the match's top baby-face.
