10 Most Unsuccessful WWE Returns Of All-Time

8. Alberto Del Rio

Alberto Del Rio was made out to be a big deal upon his arrival in WWE, forcing Rey Mysterio to submit in his debut match for SmackDown and winning the 2011 Royal Rumble match in a matter of months.

But his stock in the eyes of the fans dropped drastically when he was booked to lose the WWE Championship shortly after capturing it, and he was never quite the same from that point forward.

Del Rio was unceremoniously fired from the company in August 2014 following a backstage altercation with a social media worker, and although the release was justified, he had done it all, anyway.

It was high time he moved on to greener pastures, and he seemed right at home in Lucha Underground. Until WWE offered him a new (and reportedly more lucrative) deal to return last fall.

The idea was that he would fill the void as WWE's top Latino star, but he hasn't been relevant since the night he came back at Hell in a Cell and beat John Cena in clean fashion.

Sure, he had a short-lived reign as United States champion, but he did nothing of note as part of League of Nations and is back to floundering on his own, completely lost at sea.

Has he really been worth the investment thus far? Probably not.
