10 New Directions For AEW After Worlds End 2023
3. Samoa Joe As AEW World Champion
It isn't unfair to say that Samoa Joe is only keeping the World Title warm heading into 2024. He's hardly the long-term solution now that MJF has been dethroned, but that doesn't mean Joe has to settle for a forgettable title reign either. The wrestling machine can still have lots and lots of fun.
This is a guy who stood in a rain-soaked poncho at WrestleMania 37. Back then, he was a WWE commentator and it seemed like Joe's reign of terror inside the ring had come to an end. Fast forward to the tail end of 2023 and he's the brand new AEW World Champion.
What a glow up.
It'll be interesting to see what Tony Khan has in mind for Joe. A rematch vs. MJF seems unlikely, at least in the short-term, so something totally fresh will be required. Is a babyface turn and loss to Swerve Strickland on the agenda come Revolution?
Don't rule it out.
