10 New Directions For WWE After Clash Of Champions 2016

5. Sheamus & Cesaro Alliance

After Sheamus and Cesaro’s final instalment in the best of seven series ended in a no contest, it seemed likely that we’d be in store for an eighth meeting between these two in order to determine the recipient of the “championship opportunity”.

Credit to WWE on this one though, because they’ve actually turned the tables somewhat and added an unexpected twist to the tale. On this week’s Raw, 24 hours removed from Clash of Champions, Mick Foley revealed that since the two had improbably tied their best of seven series, they’d both be getting a championship opportunity.

Of course, they’d never defined which championship this would relate to, and so we now find ourselves with a situation in which Sheamus and Cesaro will be forming an alliance to challenge for the Tag Team Championship.

We’ve already touched upon the tag division’s need for some freshness, but on top of that I feel like this is a good move as it offers an interesting spin on the story. Will they be able to coexist? Might they even win the belts and became the latest odd-couple tag champs?

Who knows, but either way it’s made for an interesting new direction that I’m not sure too many people could claim to have seen coming.
