10 New Directions For WWE After Clash Of Champions 2016
4. Roman Reigns Vs. Chris Jericho
With Roman Reigns beating Rusev for the United States Championship at Clash of Champions, the former champ is likely to be in line for a rematch—especially after the way their follow-up contest ended on Raw the night after the PPV.
Of course, Reigns vs. Rusev is hardly a new direction, so again let’s take a slightly longer-term view of this one.
With the way the aforementioned best of seven series had been going, you might have thought that Sheamus would be a viable candidate to challenge Reigns—but again, Sheamus vs. Reigns is neither a new direction nor is it a particularly compelling one.
Alternatively, I feel like Chris Jericho could be the best choice, partly because of his credibility and partly because of the storytelling options his presence would present.
With Kevin Owens as Universal Champion, Jericho’s hunt for the United States title could be the first step on transforming the pair into a modern day Two-Man Power Trip of sorts. Plus, given that Seth Rollins is feuding with Owens, there’s always the chance that this could lead to a brief Shield mini-reunion in the form of Reigns and Rollins vs. Jeri-KO, even if it’s just on a throwaway Raw.
